Thrifty Thursday #3

It's no secret that I am obsessed with vintage milk glass.  I don't collect many things, but I have such a soft spot for milk glass. (Okay, you got me. I also collect old Mason jars, and Ironstone.)

I used to just put the milk glass in my hutch and use it as decoration.  Then it hit me.  I was being silly.  They made these bowls to be used.  With the exception of my stainless steel, I got rid of all of my big mixing bowls.  I figure if I have them, why not use them?

I bought this bunch at the Goodwill.  I paid 7 dollars for everything you see.  Most of it was half off.  I have never come across this many at one time.  I usally only find it one piece at a time.

I found 3 Pyrex dishes that have dividers, 1 Anchor Hocking mixing bowl, 2 Anchor Hocking chili bowls, 1 Glassbake chili bowl, and 1 Pyrex loaf pan!  The loaf pan is my favorite.  I didn't have one.  I guess I will be making some yummy bread now!

The Ick Factor

The other day I was at my super duper secret furniture spot, when I came across this.  I practically got it for a song. Let's just say that I paid with a 5 dollar bill and I got 2 dollars back. 

  I didn't notice how gross it was until we loaded up into my SUV.  I think that it had almost every species of spiders underneath it.  The whole way home, my skin was crawling.  All I could think about was all of those spiders.  ICK!!!  Anyway, when I got home, I made Mr. Sometimes Twice take it out for me.  I got my big gloves out.  You know the ones that go almost all the way up to your elbows...  Armed with Simple Green and Windex, I got to scrubbing.  Took me 3 hours to get the grime off of it.

The drawers were in bad shape.  I had to glue them down.  I couldn't find any clamps to use, so I improvised with my paint cans.  Worked like a charm.

Now for the fun part.  I gave it 2 coats of my homemade chalk paint.  I used an "oops" paint that I had on hand.  I distressed it with 150 grit sand paper.  I love how easy chalk paint is to distress.  It saves my arms from falling off.  I used Valspar glaze that I tinted with black paint.  This is my favorite product hands down.  It is so forgiving.  To finish the outside, I gave it two coats of wax.

I wanted a pop of something, but I wasn't quite sure what.  As I was strolling past the paint samples, I saw this hot pink. 

The hardware on the doors were broken, so I bought these at Joann's.  I think they are perfect!

 I spray painted the hardware on the drawers to match.  I used Krylon in black.

As I said before this little buffet was really dirty, so I scrubbed the drawers with vinegar. Then I lined them with contact paper that I found at the dollar store.  I buy some whenever I go in.  I want to make sure that my stock it always full.  I used to use scrapbook paper.  This is much easier and way less expensive.

I love that this buffet is neutral on the outside, but really girly in the inside. Maybe my hubby will let me keep this one!!

Thrifty Thursday #2...

It's that time again where I show you my thrifty finds!!!! 

Let me start by telling you the story... I  have wanted a cloche for quite sometime.  I have looked at stores, but have always been turned off by the big price tags!  50-100 dollars is too much for this thrifty girl!!!

Anyway, I was at Home Goods and came across a small one.  I was super excited!  It was made of thin glass, but I could live with it.  I could certianly live with the price tag of 12.99.  In it went into my cart, and I whistled all the way to the register. 

On my way home I decided to make a quick stop at Goodwill.  About 2 seconds in, I came across these!!!!

Are you kidding me???  I couldn't believe what I was looking at!  These two beauties were just sitting on the shelf waiting for me!  When I looked at the price tag, my heart did a little flip flop!  The bigger one was 11.99, and the smaller one was 9.99!!!  But wait!  It gets better!!!  The big one was a half off!!!

These guys are the real deal!  They are make of very thick glass, and are very heavy!  Both were made in France!

 It boggles my mind that these made their way into a Goodwill!  But you know what they say!  "One woman's trash is another woman's treasure!!!"

These are probably my favorite find to date!!!

All About Detail...

One of the things I look for in furniture is detail.  When I walked by this table, I instantly saw the potential!

 I started off by lightly sanding the whole piece.  Next, I mixed up my own chalk paint in a blue/grey.  I gave it two coats, and then lightly distressed it.  Then I used black glaze to make the details pop!  It's crazy how big of a difference the glaze makes. Finished by giving it a coat of wax.

The hardware wasn't working for me, so I spray painted it with a brushed nickle finish.  Again, I used glaze to make the details pop!

Check out the detail!  Love it!

Thrifty Thursday...

Hi. My name is Wendy, and I am addicted to thrift shopping!  I would go 7 days a week if I could.  There is something about going into a thrift shop, and scoring!

Each week I am going to show you all of my great finds! Just don't tell my hubby!!!

This week was a pretty great week!  I found a Pottery Barn pitcher for a whopping 4 dollars!  I couldn't get it into my cart fast enough!  Then I found two of my favorite things to collect!  An Ironstone sugar caddy for 1 dollar and a Glassbake bowl for 2 dollars!  Gotta love half price day at Salvation Army!

I can't wait to see what I find this week!!!

Easy as One, Two, Three...

I promise that I did take the before picture of this guy, but my "Littles" love to play with my phone and deleted the pictures! 

 It took me a while to figure out what I should do with this one.  I finally decided that white was the way to go.

Believe it or not, I have never painted numbers on any of my furniture.   I don't know why, but I am glad that I finally did!  I kind of want to keep this one!

I decided to mix up my own chalk paint again!  I love this stuff!!!  I gave it two coats, and then using 150 grit sandpaper, I distressed it.  Most of the time I use glaze, but I wanted this one to be a bit brighter, so I just put a little wax on to protect the finish! 

Chicken Wire Picture Frame...

I found this old ugly picture frame at a thrift store over 1 year ago!  While cleaning up my never ending junk pile, I found it!  I knew right away what I wanted to do with it.  I grabbed my paint brush, and my trusty old grey paint!  I gave it two coats of paint, distressed it, and then glazed it.  I had some chicken wire on hand, but the silver wasn't cutting it.  I spray painted it white, and stapled it to the back.  I used some clips that my best friend had made to hang the pictures!  It doesn't get much easier than this!  I think it turned out super cute!

    Check out the flower clips my bestie made!  Super fun!

I love this frame!  So easy to change the pictures out!
